In November 2020, Tremco CPG’s Vietnam office team members collectively raised 30,000,000 Dong (USD 1,400), donating it in the name of the company to help restore a local school affected by floods following a typhoon.

Built in 1989, the Number 1 An Thuy Primary School is located in the Quang Binh province of central Vietnam. The school is attended by more than 300 students between the ages of 6 to 10 years old, as well as numerous faculty members.

In mid-November 2020, a category one tropical cyclone known as VAMCO wreaked havoc across the region. Strong winds and waves of up to 3 meters ravaged the coastal provinces of Vietnam, with landslides and torrential rain causing floods throughout most of the low-lying regions and villages. Due to the severity of the devastation, more than 1,000 people were affected, and many families were displaced out of their homes.

The contribution of personal donations made by Tremco CPG staff from the Vietnam office helped to provide nutritional meals for the students, as well as school supplies such as textbooks and writing materials. The money also allowed the school to purchase tables and chairs so that lessons could resume as early as possible.

“Everyone in the company wanted to donate towards the renovation of the school and give the children a safe and clean place for them to continue their education”, explained Doan Tam, Country Manager of Tremco CPG Malaysia (Vietnam office). In recognition of its donation, a certificate of appreciation was presented to the company from the principal of the school. “We are very touched to know that our small act of charity has made a difference in helping the relief efforts for the school”, Doan added.

Together with members of the Vietnam army, teachers and parent volunteers from the local community were seen stepping forward to help clear the debris and clean up the compound in the days following the floods. With the support of various charities and private donations, school lessons were resumed by the end of December 2020.
